During the Brewfest Festival there is a Goblin outside Orgrimmar called Ram Stein, which is a reference to Rammstein, the metal band from Germany. The abomination in the Baron Rivendare event at Stratholme is also named Ramstein the Gorger. Thanks, Cathal.M

I think I've found a possible Easter Egg for WoW: TBC.
The quest "When worlds collide" (http://thottbot.com/q10765) may be a reference to Iron Maiden's song "When Two Worlds Collide" (http://www.last.fm/music/Iron+Maiden/_/When+Two+Worlds+Collide). Best regards, ~Leo.M

This item, Ramaladni's Icy Grasp, is a reference and a tribute to Indalamar, the famous warrior from the U.S. guild Nurfed, (Ramaladni is Indalamar backwards.) Thanks, Tarjei.G

While I was reading a book, Stranger in Strange Land by Robert. A Heinlein I've registred an interesting name of one minor character, young bar dancer called Dawn Argent. Same as the Argent Dawn faction in Easter Plaguelands. Thanks, Candycan.

Was looking through some of the easter eggs that have been submitted and noticed a couple of things. The one for the quest called "The Booterang" has mention of the Marine catechism about their rifles coming from the movie "Jarhead", this line is actually used in a much older movie also. It was used in the movie "Full Metal Jacket" wich was a film about a group of young Marine recruits who were drafted during the Vietnam war, and their tenure through bootcamp and into part of their actual deployment in Vietnam.
Also, at the skygaurd base in Blade's edge mountains there is a reference to the movie "Top Gun" which starred a younger Tom Cruise, and Val Kilmer. There are a couple of scenes where Maverick, Tom Cruises character, and Goose, his navigator, do a fly by of the control towers and the air traffic controllers spill there coffee. Don't remember off hand the text that is said, but if it is compared with the lines from the movie, it will be found to be an almost 100 percent identical match. Not sure how you all go about verifying these things and posting them, but I thought that these might interesting to look into being added. Thanks for your time. Thanks, Roy.E

Human Females's silly emote says: "I sure hope we finish this quest soon so i can get back to collecting Garibaldi artifacts"
- you say it comes from "Alias", but "Garibaldi" is also the name of the security officer from Babylon 5 - and he had a fondness for his collection of artifacts, namely, cartoons like daffy duck and stuff. It's possible Alias used the name intentionally or that it's a coincidence... There are only so many names, after all!
Hagar Lightninghoof asks you to find a strange egg in the quest Alien Egg Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets -- Rubeus Hagrid the groundkeeper of Hogwart school is a character that collects strange eggs. In his movie he purchased a dragon egg
- could also refer to the movie "Alien" where the aliens hatch out of
glowing green eggs.
Tigule and Foror's Strawberry Ice Cream item is bought from a vendor named Alowicious Czervik(sweet treats)when you take the quest "You Scream, I Scream" from the Orphan Children's Week during the month of May
Reference to Tigole and Furor, Blizzard Employees. Tigole is Jeff Kaplan, Lead Quest Designer and Furor is the leader of Fires of Heaven guild from Everquest, now in Wow. Furor became a Blizzard employee as Quest Designer
Alowicious Czervik is a giveaway .... Famous Al Czervik character in
Caddyshack (1980) was played by Rodney Dangerfield. Caddyshack was
co-written and directed by Harold Ramis which also has a easter egg at
Undercity along with Ghostbuster eggs in World of Warcraft.
Thanks, Rick and Joe.A(butercupz)
" I scream, you scream" comes from the I Scream song - lyrics here -

Morning Glory Dew is a consumable item. The acronym is MGD Miller Genuine Draft - a beer from a large American beermaker based in Milwaukee. It was founded in 1855 by Frederick Miller. [scratches head trying to figure out which Blizzard dev drinks booze in the morning ... O_o]
Thanks, IrvingMike
-Also possibly a reference to the saying "Morning, Glory! How do you Dew, Drop?"
Cheers!

For the entries of "The Night Watch" and "Underfoot" I always thought they were in reference to George R.R. Martins book series called the Song of Ice and Fire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_of_ice_and_fire). The "Night's Watch" are a group of men who guard a wall of ice in the northern part of the realm against the wildlings, giants, and other creatures of old beyond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night%E2%80%99s_Watch). "Underfoot" I related to Arya Underfoot, a nickname given to Arya Stark because she was always "underfoot" and got in the way (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arya_Stark, though no mention of 'underfoot').
I haven't found any other possible references to that book series elsewhere in game so the current entries for those items are probably a more accurate correlation. Just thought to add my interpretations to the list of Easter Eggs. Thanks! Dralnuu

I checked quickly and i didnt find anything about it, but theres a blood elf Warlock in dushwallow marsh named Cersei Dusksinger. Shes most probably a reference to Cersei Lannister from the Song of Fire and Ice serie of books. Thanks, Roxane.G

Innkeeper Remi Dodoso in Area 52. Her name is a reference to the five note tune played in the Steven Spielberg UFO movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind; Re, Mi, Do, Do (an octave lower), and Sol. Thanks, Amit.C

There are a couple of reagent vendors in BC. In Lower
City, the reagent vendor's name is Fantei. In
Ogri'la, the reagent vendor's name in Mingo.
This is a reference to the movie Serenity. The twins
that hire Malcom and his crew to rob the Alliance
payroll are named Fantei and Mingo. The NPC's in game
are not twins, but they share the same names.
Thanks for keeping up such a fun site! -Amaree, Proudmoore Realm (US)

I have a new easter egg for you. In Shadowmoon Valley, for a Netherwing daily quest - The Booterang: A cure for the common worthless peon. The description on the item Booterang reads:
"This is your Booterang. There are many like it, but this one is yours."
It is a reference to the Marines and how they say the same line about their rifle. It is also seen in the movie Jarhead when they make them repeat the line. Thanks, Gentleben

For this entry: You can see the tracks leading up to a blackspot in the cliff side in Shimmering Flats and in Tanaris the wrecked rocket car. (page 8)
You have it as a Buckaroo Banzai reference. Except that in Buckaroo Banzai, the test succeeded. There wasn't a wrecked rocket car.
This is a reference to the classic urban legend of the folks who attached a JATO engine to the back of their car, and, as the legend goes, were doing all right - until it came time to turn. The reality is, that this is completely bogus for any number of practical considerations. Details can be found here:
http://www.snopes.com/autos/dream/jato.asp
It's arguably the classic internet urban legend. Thanks, tsgeisel. |
