Starcraft Content & Upcoming Public Q&A

I know . . . I know. It looks like there is not much activity on Blizzplanet this weekend. Worry not. Things done Saturday:

And finally ... thanks to Keith R.A. DeCandido, who provided me the contact info, today we secured an upcoming Public Q&A on IRC chat with his colleague writer Aaron Rosenberg -- where fans will be able to make questions about his current project STARCRAFT: QUEEN OF BLADES -- due to be on sale by May 2006.

Aaron Rosenberg is willing to do a Q&A.

Day: Saturday, February 18
Time: 4pm EST / 1pm PST
Server: irc.wowirc.com
Channel: #Wowirc

Webmasters, Admins and Staff from local and international Starcraft Fansites, non-Starcraft Fansites, Gaming Networks and Starcraft Tournament Organizations and Fans are welcome to this Fansites Q&A.

We are doing this Q&A on Wowirc Server, hopping around in the community to bring you interviews of interest and entertainment.

Special thanks to SCLegacy, Starcraft.org, GosuGamers.net, PGTour, PCGames.de, Broodwar.de, Rp-Pvp.com, Gamershell, WowVault (IGN), and Judgehype for supporting our previous Q&A with Keith R.A. DeCandido and for helping to spread the news.

StarCraft the movie

Although this is an old post from January, it deserves a mention. EvanC -- Blizzard Poster -- replied a thread titled Starcraft the Movie:
EvanC: "Officially
We are very interested in taking our worlds and characters into other realms of entertainment, but as with any of our projects, we seek to work with the best talent available. While we would love to bring StarCraft, Warcraft and Diablo to the screen, we will do so only when we find the right partners.

Un-Officially
What kind of a story outline would you have a movie portray; the story line of SC and BW or a new story?"

A fan suggested creating a movie based on STARCRAFT: LIBERTY'S CRUSADE.

Another Blizzard Poster, NickJS, commented on a thread titled World of Starcraft.
NickJS: "The topic of "World of StarCraft" is often brought up. I would like to see something similiar to PlanetSide which I had a lot of fun playing during the beta."

Starcraft won Walk of Game Star

Starcraft recently won the Walk of Game Award recognizing the best legends in the video games industry. A star to Starcraft will be unveiled later during 2006 at the Metreon Building in San Francisco. Since its debut in 1998, the #1-selling StarCraft series has won industry acclaim and has shattered sales records worldwide with over nine million copies sold. Blizzard continued the series with the critically acclaimed StarCraft: Brood War?, which won multiple Expansion Pack of the Year awards and is still considered by many critics to be one of the best add-on products to date.

Walk of Game is the first-of-its-kind landmark honoring the icons and pioneers of the videogame industry.

Walk of Game is located inside Metreon, a 350,000 square-foot entertainment complex at Fourth and Mission Streets in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

Every year, gamers worldwide cast their vote on www.WalkOfGame.com to induct the next set of honorees to receive a permanent 24"x 24", customized steel star on the Walk of Game. From the list of nominees, the top four in the category of Games/Characters and the top two in Lifetime Achievement will be inducted.

The list of nominees is compiled from a survey of industry members and technology, entertainment, and gaming media. SCA Interactive, a leader in online promotions, powers the Walk of Game voting interface.

Sarah McKerrigan: Lady Danger Novel

Glynnis Talken -- voice of Kerrigan in Starcraft -- has great news for her Medieval Romance writer career to share with her fans. Sarah Michelle Gellar has endorsed her first novel LADY DANGER. We have the cover of her new book to be published by Time/Warner on April 2006.
I have some very exciting news this month. My agent has managed to garner an endorsement for my first Sarah McKerrigan novel from Sarah Michelle Gellar of ?Buffy, the Vampire Slayer?! Buffy definitely has something in common with Deirdre, my kick-butt heroine in LADY DANGER. They're both beautiful, powerful warriors, tough yet vulnerable. And this valuable endorsement should help get copies of LADY DANGER flying off the shelves in April! By the way, if you want a sneak peek at my book cover, visit www.sarahmckerrigan.com. The site isn't really up and running yet, but there's a splash page for LADY DANGER.

Ohh Noes!!! Blizzard does it Again!

Something strange is happening at Battle.net website. The page loads a random image with a simple message: 10. 7. 05
Remember the infamous Starcraft: Ghost countdown back on 2002? This may mean there is a big announcement to be done today! The HTML page has a hidden message saying: "Get ready!". Some fans speculate a new game will be announced, or a new franchise, or a Diablo related game, while others speculate that there will be a new Ladder reset and others say Starcraft: Ghost date release will be announced based on this image. Here is another variant image with the .999_=1 message. Below are the Teaser images displayed randomly on reload:

GosuGamers.net has word that Devs are teasing fans over at the Battle.net forums with clues and hints driving them crazy. Rumor is that Starcraft, Warcraft III and Diablo II will shortly be announced to launch a Nintendo DS version. We will have to wait late today for the official news. Keep updated.
Everyone is mind-boggled refreshing Battle.net website all day long to find out!

UPDATE: Very ... interesting. It was all about a new website layout, no new game announcements.

EFF Criticizes BNETD Court Decision

The Electronic Frontier Foundation(EFF) strikes back at the decision of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to give a victory to Blizzard Entertainment on the legal case against BNETD:
The court ruled that Congress? explicit protections for reverse engineering and add-on innovation in the highly controversial DMCA are too narrow and weak to protect innovators from lawsuits when the software they create is used for illegal copying, even if the copying occurs without the knowledge or participation of the program?s creators. The court also ruled that clicking on a EULA?s "I Agree" button, common when installing almost any software product purchased today, can be used to force both consumers and competitors out of the marketplace for add-on innovation.

Additionally, Gamespot got a reply from Paul Sams -- Blizzard VP of Business Operations after the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled their decision. The link provides some more of his comment. Here is an excerpt:
We have worked hard to provide gamers with a free and secure environment on Battle.net, and this ruling further validates that we are justified in protecting our service and our players. In addition, it represents another major victory against software piracy."
