Mockery reached a mutual agreement to transfer ownership of the domain name: Diablo3.com to Blizzard Entertainment in very amicable terms. Blizzard has been acquiring domain names such as Diablo3.fr, Diablo3.de and other country variations. As well as any variation with Diablo4, Diablo5, up to Diablo7.
This isn’t new as it has been widely spread on community forums online. This action has been happening since November 2007. The latest was Diabloiii.es from Spain. However, Diablo3.com was the most priced for Blizzard Entertainment. It is the homeland domain name, the U.S. Homepage, the main Diablo 3 portal. Will it be used? When will it be used? That’s anyone’s guess. Blizzard has not made an official announcement of their Diablo team game, which people has rumored for months might be Team 3.
Back on July 2007, Frank Pearce – Blizzard founding member and Senior vice president of product development—told Gamasutra: “Team 3 is working on something really awesome. I can’t give you any hints, but it’s totally awesome.” (Read More).
With ownership of the domain name given by free will to Blizzard Entertainment, less than two months away from the Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals, rumors are building up as well as expectations … “will there be a game announcement?”. No one can tell for sure. However, it is an interesting thought to consider … Diablo II shipped on USA on June 29, 2000. Lord of Destruction expansion shipped on Europe on June 29, 2001. The Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals end on … June 29. Coincidence? The real countdown starts anew aiming to June 29.

This is indeed a step closer to what might be the announcement of the next Diablo game, whether it is on June 29, or the next year. Or when Blizzard is ready. This domain name acquisition will ignite hype all across the internet … and effectively, half the internet will be visiting and reloading Diablo3.com—there was no lie to that—because everyone will be visiting Diablo3.com in the next months hoping to one day see activity from Blizzard Entertainment … not the fansite.
