In July 2002, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos launched in multiple regions around the world and quickly became Blizzard’s seventh #1 seller. Once the bulk of the reviews had been written, it was clear that Warcraft III had earned a spot as one of the highest rated PC games of all time, following in the footsteps of its seven-year-old predecessor in the series, 1995’s Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness.
Combined with the Frozen Throne expansion set, Warcraft III remains a popular component of international competitive play, and thanks in large part to the efforts of an active mod community, there’s a wide variety of new Warcraft III experiences to be had that go well beyond what comes in the box.
