Gamasutra talked with Legendary Pictures Chairman Thomas Tull about the World of Warcraft film by Legendary Pictures. Read the full article.
I have been digging some info of Thomas Tull. He led a Keynote at the 2nd Annual Hollywood & Games Summit today (June 27, 9:15 – 10:15 AM) at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel (California). Thomas Tull’s keynote was titled: “Driving Mythology Forward”. You can read more details of his keynote and bios here.
Interestingly, Rob Pardo (VP Game Design, Blizzard Entertainment) also had a keynote at the Hollywood and Games Summit yesterday (Tuesday, June 26 – 3:45 – 4:40 PM). Pardo’s keynote was titled: “Creating Parallel Community Experiences Between Films and MMOs”.
This is what Thomas Tull commented to Gamasutra concerning World of Warcraft:
When Gamasutra asked Thomas Tull how closely Legendary was working with World Of Warcraft creator Blizzard on the movie, Tull commented: “Right now we’re working on that realtime”, suggesting further:
“… I think some of the stuff that makes a game translate well into a movie is a good story. If there’s a lore, if there’s a road and story and a world that’s been created, and characters that are interesting in a way that’s more than just point and shoot…”
“We are working very closely with the designers and writers, and they’re very involved. I think on the bigger [films] you have to have that. They’re sitting right there at the table with us as we develop the story and the script, and I think we’re nailing the story and what’s compelling about it.”
