Industry Gamers got an exclusive comment from Bill Freimuth that The 54th GRAMMY Awards has included video games music into four award categories. This decision provides video game studios and their in-house music/audio teams the opportunity to get recognition by the academy and to stand side by side with the film and television industry.
“I think this could be viewed as a first step in the direction of video games getting their own category. Many people from the game community have been asking us to create a special category for games over the years, but the main reason we haven’t is because we have received very few entries from game publishers.” — said Bill Freimuth to Industry Gamers.
This step by the Academy encourages game studios to submit music scores en masse. Blizzard Entertainment has an in-house team of music composers: Russell Brower (Director of Audio/Video), and Glenn Stafford (Senior Composer) among them. Blizzard’s music has been available as a stand alone DVD product, and as part of the Collector’s Edition. StarCraft II and World of Warcraft music is played year-round in concerts throughout North America and Europe by the following philarmonic orchestras: Video Games Live, Symphonic Game Music Concerts (Leipzig, Germany), and Play! A Video Game Symphony.
StarCraft II, World of Warcraft and Diablo III music was featured by the Eminence Symphony Orchestra in the Echoes of War: The Music of Blizzard Entertainment DVD.
Overall, Blizzard Entertainment continues to touch millions of hearts and souls with awesome music scores. It won’t be a surprise to see Blizzard Entertainment as a GRAMMY Award winner. All that can be said would be: “Hell, It’s about time!”
