Blizzplanet will spin a “Wild Rumor” and it is by no means confirmed. During the SONY PS4 announcement conference, GameTrailers asked Chris Metzen whether there would be a Diablo III (Xbox) version. John Hight (Blizzard Production Director) quickly interrupted and said “Tonight really is SONY’s event and that’s what we are here to talk about. We’ll make announcements down the road about what we are going to do with Diablo III and future plans.”
At the time it was not confirmed if Diablo III would come to the next-gen Xbox, but he didn’t deny it either […]! It made sense not to talk about that at a SONY event. It wouldn’t have been polite. John Hight was formerly SONY Director of Product Development (2005-2011). Hight joined Blizzard Entertainment on November 2011 as lead game producer of World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria.
Next-Gen Xbox Conference
Today, Larry Hryb ( Director of Programming for the Microsoft gaming network Xbox Live) wrote in his blog Microsoft will announce the next XBOX console on May 21st.
We ask our visitors — what are the chances that Blizzard Entertainment might make an announcement that day or shortly after?
- On Tuesday May 21st, we’ll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment. On that day, we’ll be holding a special press event on the Xbox campus and we invite you to join us via the live global stream that will be available on Xbox LIVE and Xbox.com. If you are in the US or Canada, you can also watch the broadcast on Spike TV.
On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.
We are thrilled to pull back the curtain and reveal what we’ve been working on.

I read somewhere that the May 21st announcement is only about the console, but I doubt they can talk about it without revealing a few games, so maybe? But if they don’t announce it then, they definitely will at E3.
Blizzard hasn’t been at E3 in ages. If it’s not announced on May 21, there are few places where Blizzard has already announced stuff outside of BlizzCon.
San Diego Comic Con – July 18-21
PAX Prime – Aug 30 – Sept 2
GamesCom – Aug 21-25
Just because they haven’t been at E3 doesn’t mean Chris Metzen or whomever can’t make an appearance to talk about it. That’s what they did with the Sony announcement.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. This being a minor, predictable announcement, and on consoles – which is something Blizzard hasn’t done in ages either – I think it could be a sidenote in Microsoft’s conference the way it was in Sony’s.
