I would take this with a grain of salt. Gamespy has an article as an overall GDC2008 Rumor and Speculation and “yawn” predictions, by Gamespy corresponsals; in which it is “predicted” that Activision-owned studios “Infinity Ward” will tackle a Starcraft: Ghost Online for PC and Consoles … doesn’t that sound like “coughs” Next-Generation MMO? Blizzard Entertainment has been hiring for the past year various developers for a Next-Gen MMO secret project. Time will tell if this rumor takes off into reality, or if it gets debunked as mere hairshop gossip.
Infinity Ward, Inc. is an award winning developer and wholly owned subsidiary of Activision, Inc., which is headquartered in Encino, CA. Infinity Ward is also the developer of the critically acclaimed game Call of Duty for PC and Call of Duty 2 for PC and Xbox 360 entertainment console.
Gabe Graziani: Getting back to Activision/Blizzard, an announcement will be made at E3 that Infinity Ward has been tapped to develop StarCraft Ghost for the 360, PS3 and PC. The twist will be that there will be a persistent online world component that players can enter for a monthly fee, effectively making an MMO StarCraft game similar in some respects to PlanetSide only much, much better.
