Chris Metzen & Flint Dille continue to flesh out the 12-part story arc of Transformers: Autocracy.
In Transfromers: Autocracy # 6, Zeta Prime has shown his true colors and Hot Rod has been successful opening Orion Pax’s eyes. Orion Pax finally accepts his leader has betrayed him, and set up his Autobots team.
Back in issue # 4, Zeta Prime sent Orion Pax and his Autobots team to Nyon in a mission to capture the terrorist cell leader, Hot Rod. Turns out, it was a set up. Zeta Prime had ordered the release of the Omega Destructors upon Nyon with the intent to siphon the energon from the citizens, thus expecting Orion Pax and the Autobots to die along with the rebels.
Megatron and Starscream, safely within the Decepticons headquarter, spy upon the invasion of Nyon; and the Decepticon leader ponders what Orion Pax might do now with the raw truth slapping him in the face.
Hot Rod has to make a desperate decision. One that makes the reader wonder how different he is compared to Zeta Prime. Given the circumstances, even good-hearted people might be put between a rock and a hard place.
In issue # 6: Purge, Chris Metzen and Flint Dille play mindgames with the reader. Decepticons, Autobots, Zeta Prime’s Autocracy, Nyon Rebels. Throughout the Gen1 80s, it was about black and white. Autobots and Decepticons.
This story reveals the old days of Cybertron was a cornucopia of factions with shades of gray. Leaders with different agendas who dealt with the citizens in unexpected ways.
The general story in issue # 6 doesn’t have revelations, or long cliche megalomaniac monologues. It’s about action, and facing the raw hard truth. Zeta Prime and his Omega Destructors have arrived to Nyon, and the odds of winning this battle are slim.
This is merely the belly button of the Autocracy series. Six more issues to go. A story that aims to tell readers what dire situations helped to build the Optimus Prime everyone knows, loves, and holds dear.
