World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects (Part 1) by Richard A. Knaak is a must-read for those who love to read about the dragon aspects. In this story not only do we witness the origins of the dragon aspects before the Titans bestowed upon them their powers in the far past, but also a contemporary times update post Deathwing’s Fall. Shortly after “The Age of Mortals” began and the dragon aspects lost their powers. Kalec finds an item of power that allows him to see through the eyes of Malygos back to an era where Galakrond was alive and the dragon aspects were still mere proto-drakes.
The 5-part story will be published as an eBook every month. Pre-order them now to get your copies reserved and ready on launch date.

Uncertainty plagues Azeroth’s ancient guardians as they struggle to find a new purpose. This dilemma has hit Kalecgos, youngest of the former Dragon Aspects, especially hard. Having lost his great powers, how can he—or any of his kind—still make a difference in the world?
The answer lies in the distant past, when savage beasts called proto-dragons ruled the skies. Through a mysterious artifact found near the heart of Northrend, Kalecgos witnesses this violent era and the shocking history of the original Aspects: Alexstrasza, Ysera, Malygos, Neltharion, and Nozdormu.
In their most primitive forms, the future protectors of Azeroth must stand united against Galakrond, a bloodthirsty creature that threatens the existence of their race. But did these mere proto-dragons face such a horrific adversary alone, or did an outside force help them? Were they given the strength they would become legendary for…or did they earn it with blood? Kalecgos’s discoveries will change everything he knows about the events that led to the…DAWN OF THE ASPECTS
PART I
The former Dragon Aspects are on the brink of going their separate ways to forge new destinies. As Kalecgos ponders the uncertain future awaiting his kind, he uncovers a mysterious artifact that allows him to see through the eyes of his late predecessor, Malygos. Intense visions bombard Kalecgos, transporting him to a time when the original Aspects were no more than primitive proto-dragons. Across ancient Kalimdor’s northern plains, they fought for survival against each other and a terrifying creature that dominated the era: the Father of Dragons, Galakrond. But many questions remain for Kalecgos. What are the origins of this strange artifact? Are its visions a gift, or a curse?
This looks great, the cover image is awesome. Made me realise the TLPD could be Nozdormu! I know it’s a stretch but hey, that would be cool.
Also, I am a bit confused, if it’s a ebook, why the pre-order? Ebook means unlimited stock, and transaction time can’t be so long if you buy it the day it comes out, right? Don’t promote pre-order, especially when there is no need for it!
But thanks for the news, I was hoping to see a new warcraft book. Jaina Proudmoore was awesome.
Pre-orders are mostly a way for a business to lock in customers before release. Blizzard books and games (the two main things Blizzplanet talks about) are very rarely out of stock because sales predictions are quite reliable at this point.
I love this project not only because dragons are awesome and it’s more lore for us lore nerds, but also because they are trying out a new episodic business model that I think could be very interesting for the whole industry, especially with the rise of ebooks, Kindle and tablets. I know of some writers (I have one in mind in particular, but I don’t think you guys would know him since he’s French ^^) who are quite prolific and could definitely produce a handful of chapters every few months.
Sometimes people forget the release dates. Whether it is for real life stuff getting in the way, or because we are busy playing video games. I assume when you pre-order an eBook, you get an email alert letting you know the eBook is available now to read. You click the email link and start reading right away.
On the other hand, publishers like Simon & Schuster, Inc. might have an idea of how many people pre-ordered for statistic purposes. The same stats allow New York Times to plan ahead the Top 100 Best Selling eBooks (just an example).
